About the event
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in southern Colorado is one of the most visually striking landscapes in North America, where the tallest sand dunes on the continent rise dramatically against the backdrop of the rugged Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Formed over thousands of years by wind and water patterns in the San Luis Valley, the dunes reach heights of more than 700 feet and create a constantly shifting terrain of rippled sand, seasonal creeks, alpine forests, grasslands, and wetlands. The park offers a rare combination of environments, allowing visitors to hike the dunes, splash through Medano Creek in spring, camp beneath exceptionally dark night skies, and explore diverse wildlife habitats all within a single destination.
